Les Fusionels Faugeres-Arielle & Jem Harris
Arielle & Jem's story began in 2004, when they met while working at a winery in New South Wales. A viticulturist trained in South Australia, Jem turned down a few opportunities to follow his future wife back to Champagne, where she was working on the family estate. Both having their mind set on making red wines rather than sparkles, they searched for some distinctive Terroirs in different parts of southern France and finally settled for 7 Hectares of land in Cabrerolles, a village located in the Faugeres appellation, high above the plains of Languedoc, at the foot of the Cevennes mountains.
Considered a "Cru" of Languedoc, Faugeres wines are renowned for their robustness, power and complexity. The challenge they set out for Les Fusionels was to find a new expression of Faugeres and make wines friendlier to approach when young. Today, they farm 12 Hectares of land, located mostly in the higher parts of the appellation, up to 380 meters above sea level where the vines are planted in the typical brown Schists soils. While benefiting from marine breezes and Tramontane (north east wind), these cooler terroirs in a fiery land are a perfect playground for this talented couple of Artisans Vignerons. Since the creation of the estate, their wines have been gathering accolades from the most prominent commentators on the region, and they are now recognised as being among the movers and shakers of Languedoc.
